Quick guide from the manual
The Axiom FP-1 Fuzz Preamp is a versatile pedal combining a transistor-based fuzz stage with a cascaded preamp section. It is designed to replicate the characteristics of a tube preamp while offering the dynamic response of classic fuzz pedals. The device features 100% analog circuitry and true bypass.
Control functions

- LEVEL: Adjusts the overall output volume.
- FUZZ: Controls the amount of clipping in the fuzz stage.
- PREAMP: Adjusts gain in the cascaded preamp stage. At fully counter-clockwise, it functions as a traditional fuzz. Turning it clockwise adds overdrive characteristics similar to a tube preamp.
- BASS: Increases bass frequencies when turned clockwise. Fully clockwise provides a flat bass response.
- MID: Adjusts mid frequencies. The 12:00 position provides a flat mid response.
- TREBLE: Increases treble frequencies. Fully clockwise provides a flat treble response.
Usage tips
- Solid-state or clean tube amps: Use the PREAMP control to add extra gain and clipping for a crunchy tube-like sound.
- Moderate to high gain tube amps: Decrease the PREAMP setting and use the FUZZ and LEVEL controls to push the amplifier into saturation.
Technical specifications
- Power: 9 Vdc (battery or external power), 2.1 mm center negative connector.
- Current Draw: 24 mA maximum.
- Input Impedance: 713 kOhm minimum.
- Dimensions: 4.7" x 3.9" x 1.3".
- Weight: 1.4 lbs (without 9V battery).
Practical help
Common problems
Decrease the PREAMP setting and rely on the FUZZ and LEVEL controls to push the amplifier into saturation.
Increase the PREAMP control to add extra gain and clipping.
Before use
- Ensure you are using a 9 Vdc power supply with a 2.1 mm center-negative plug.
- Check that your battery is fresh if not using an external power supply.
- Verify your amplifier type (solid-state vs. tube) to determine the best starting PREAMP setting.
Specs in practice
- Input Impedance (713 kOhm)
- Ensures proper signal loading for guitar pickups to maintain tone clarity.
- Current Draw (24 mA)
- The maximum power required by the pedal; ensure your power supply can provide at least this amount.
Images and diagrams
- The control layout consists of two rows: LEVEL, FUZZ, and PREAMP on top; BASS, MID, and TREBLE on the bottom.
- Clockwise rotation generally increases the intensity of the selected parameter.
Model compatibility
- Compatible with both solid-state and tube amplifiers.
- Designed to work with standard 9V battery or external 9V DC power adapters.
