The Cobra Fortis series is a petrol-powered cylinder lawn mower designed for home gardening and fine turf sports field environments. Before operating, ensure you are familiar with the controls and safety procedures. Warning: Never use the mower to trim hedges, shrubs, or as a power cultivator. Always wear substantial footwear and long trousers during operation. Keep bystanders and animals at a safe distance.
Parts Description
The mower features a throttle lever, upper and lower handles, drive and cylinder clutch levers, a grass box collector, front roller, cutting cylinder, and height of cut control. Refer to the parts diagram for specific locations of these components.

Assembly
Handlebar Assembly: Align the upper handle with the lower handle. Fit the quick-release lever with one washer on the outside and one on the inside of the handlebar. Secure with the nut and tighten using a 13mm spanner. Repeat for the other side.
Preparing for Use
Filling with Engine Oil: The mower is shipped with the oil drained. Ensure the mower is on level ground and fill the crankcase with SAE 30 Engine Oil to the top of the dipstick/filler cap, keeping the level between the upper and lower limits.

Filling with Petrol: Use unleaded fuel. Refuel outdoors only, with the engine stopped and cool. Do not smoke while refueling.
Grass Collector: Hook the base of the collector over the support studs on the mower body. The collector rests on the lower supports.
Operation
Starting Procedure: The starting process varies slightly between Loncin and Briggs & Stratton engines. Generally, move the fuel valve to 'ON', set the throttle to 1/3 towards 'FAST', move the choke to 'CLOSE' (for cold engines), and pull the starter grip until the engine starts. Gradually move the choke to 'OPEN' as the engine warms.

Mowing Controls: Engage the cutting cylinder by moving the cylinder control lever towards the handle. Engage the power drive by moving the drive control lever towards the handle.
Stopping: In an emergency, release both control levers. For a planned stop, move the throttle to 'SLOW', release the drive and cylinder levers, turn the engine switch to 'OFF', and turn the fuel valve to 'OFF'.
Maintenance and Adjustments
Height of Cut: Turn the height control knob clockwise to raise the cutting height and anti-clockwise to lower it.

Cylinder to Bottom Blade Gap: Loosen the bolts on both sides of the mower and the nuts on the adjustment screw. Turn the adjustment screw until the cylinder blade just makes contact with the bottom blade while still rotating freely. Re-tighten all nuts and bolts. Test with paper to ensure a clean cut.
Belt Adjustment: For the cylinder drive belt, remove the side cover, loosen the lock nut, and adjust cable tension until there is 5-6mm of movement in the belt. For the drive control, adjust the long bolt until the belt has 1-2mm of movement.
Lubrication: Regularly apply oil to the height of cut adjuster knob shaft and the inner shaft of the front roller.
Changing the Cartridge: The Fortis system supports 7 different cartridges. To change, remove the side cover, remove the cartridge securing bolts, remove the belt from the pulley, and lift out the cartridge. Reverse the process to fit a new one.
Troubleshooting
If the grass is not cut cleanly, check and adjust the cylinder-to-bottom-blade gap. If the engine has starting problems, it may be flooded; wait 10-15 minutes and reconnect the spark plug. If the power drive does not work, adjust the drive cable tension.
Technical Data
The series includes models Fortis 14L, 17B, 20B, and 25B with varying engine displacements (127cm³ to 196cm³) and blade widths (14in to 25in). All models feature a rated speed of 3600/min.

Common problems
The cylinder to bottom blade gap is incorrect. Check and adjust the gap; sharpen the cylinder if necessary.
Engine may be flooded. Wait 10-15 minutes, ensure the spark plug lead is connected, and check if the spark plug is dirty.
Check for no petrol, increase throttle speed if too low, or remove any obstruction from the cutting cylinder.
The drive cable is incorrectly adjusted or damaged. Adjust the drive cable tension.
Before use
- Check the oil level and add SAE 30 oil if required.
