The E-flite Decathlon RJG 1.2m is a high-performance RC airplane. Before your first flight, ensure the transmitter is programmed correctly, the Center of Gravity (CG) is balanced, and all control surfaces are tested. The model features SAFE Select technology for flight assistance and AS3X for stabilization.
Assembly
Landing Gear: Attach the landing gear (A) to the bottom of the fuselage. Secure the mounting plate (B) over the gear using six M3 x 10 mm screws (C) with a 2 mm hex wrench.

Tail Assembly: Insert the vertical stabilizer tabs (A) through the horizontal stabilizer (B) and into the fuselage. Secure the assembly using a 1.5 mm hex wrench with two 2.5 mm x 15 mm screws (C) and one 2 mm x 8 mm screw (D) in the tail wheel mount. Connect the elevator and rudder linkages.
Wing Assembly: Remove the strut transport clip. Mount the wing to the fuselage, ensuring the struts hang underneath. Secure the wing using two M3 x 25 mm screws (A). Ensure the hands-free servo connection is fully engaged.
Transmitter Setup
The manual provides detailed configuration steps for Spektrum NX, DX, and iX series transmitters. Key settings include:

- Dual Rates: Set Aileron, Elevator, and Rudder to 100% (High) and 70% (Low) with 5-10% Expo.
- Throttle Cut: Set to Switch H, Position -100%.
- SAFE Select: Can be assigned to a switch (channels 5-9) for on-the-fly activation.
Flight Preparation
Center of Gravity (CG): The CG is measured 60mm +/- 5mm from the leading edge where the wing meets the fuselage. Ensure the battery is positioned to achieve this balance.

Control Tests: Perform a control direction test to ensure surfaces move correctly. Perform an AS3X control test by raising the throttle above 25% to activate the system, then moving the aircraft to observe surface reactions.
Maintenance
Motor Maintenance: To disassemble, remove the spinner, propeller, and motor cowl. Disconnect the LED plug. Remove the motor mount screws to access the motor. Reassemble in reverse order.
Troubleshooting
If you experience issues such as oscillation, check for loose components or propeller imbalance. If the plane does not respond to throttle, verify the throttle trim is at the lowest setting and the ESC is connected. For binding issues, ensure the transmitter is not too close to the receiver during the process.
Practical help
Common problems
Check for a damaged or unbalanced propeller, loose receiver, or loose control linkages. Tighten all components.
Ensure throttle trim is at the lowest setting. Check that the ESC is properly connected to the receiver.
Ensure the battery is fully charged. Check if the propeller is mounted correctly (numbers facing forward). Use a battery with higher capacity if needed.
Move the transmitter away from the plane during binding. Ensure the correct model memory is selected on the transmitter.
Before use
- Ensure transmitter is programmed correctly for the model.
- Check Center of Gravity (CG) at 60mm +/- 5mm from the leading edge.
- Verify all control directions (Elevator, Aileron, Rudder).
- Perform AS3X control test.
- Ensure battery is fully charged.
- Check all screws and linkages for tightness.
Images and diagrams
