Quick Guide

The Spektrum Firma 60A Sensored ESC is designed for 1/10th scale RC crawlers. Before operating, you must calibrate the ESC to your transmitter. Ensure the motor and ESC wires are connected correctly (A to A, B to B, C to C) and the sensor wire is attached. Always disconnect the battery when not in use to prevent deep discharge.

Safety Information

  • Age Restriction: Not a toy. Recommended for ages 14 and up.
  • Usage: Intended exclusively for hobby-grade, remote-controlled vehicles and aircraft.
  • Temperature: Monitor system temperatures; do not exceed 71°C (160°F). If temperatures are too high, reduce the gear ratio (use a smaller pinion).
  • Handling: Keep clear of rotating parts when the battery is connected.

Installation

Motor Connection: The Firma 60A ESC is compatible only with Spektrum brushless sensored motors. The connection order is rigid: connect ESC terminals A, B, and C to the corresponding motor terminals. Do not change this order.

Gear Mesh: Ensure the pinion and spur gear mesh is correct. Use a piece of paper between the gears while tightening the motor mount screws to ensure proper spacing. If the mesh is too tight, it will cause overheating; if too loose, it may damage the gears.

Calibration

Calibration is required for every new ESC or if transmitter settings are changed:

  1. Turn on the transmitter and set throttle to 100% dual rate, neutral trim, and subtrim. Ensure ABS braking is off.
  2. Connect the battery to the ESC.
  3. Press and hold the power button. The red LED will flash and the motor will beep. Release the button (if you hold it longer than 8 seconds, it enters programming mode).
  4. With the throttle trigger in neutral, press and release the power button. The green LED will flash once and the motor will beep once.
  5. Pull the throttle trigger to full throttle, press and release the power button. The green LED will flash twice and the motor will beep twice.
  6. Push the throttle trigger to full brake/reverse, press and release the power button. The green LED will flash three times and the motor will beep three times.
  7. Calibration is complete; the motor will operate normally.

Programming

You can adjust settings using the SPMXCA200 Programmer Box. Connect the programmer to the ESC fan port, connect the battery, and use the SELECT and EDIT buttons to adjust parameters. Press SAVE to apply changes and power cycle the ESC.

LED Status Codes

  • Red LED flashing rapidly: ESC not detecting throttle signal or neutral value mismatch. Recalibrate.
  • Green LED flashing: Indicates the number of LiPo cells detected.
  • Red LED solid: Vehicle moving forward.
  • Green LED solid: Vehicle at full throttle or full brake.
  • Red LED single flash: Low Voltage Cutoff (LVC) active.
  • Green LED single flash: ESC thermal protection active.
  • Green LED double flash: ESC thermal protection mode active.
  • Red & Green double flash: Sensor wire issue. Check connections.

Auto Motor Pairing

If you change the motor Kv, or if the motor has suffered a heavy impact or abnormal heating, perform auto pairing:

  1. Disconnect the throttle wire from the receiver and remove the motor pinion.
  2. Connect the battery and press/hold the power button. The ESC will flash red, followed by a double flash after 8 seconds. Release the button.
  3. The motor will spin automatically (green LED inside the ESC will flash).
  4. When the motor stops, the green LED will turn solid.
  5. The ESC will perform a self-test. Reconnect the throttle wire and restart the ESC.

Practical help

Common problems

ESC does not start and LEDs are off

Check all battery and ESC connections. Replace the power switch if damaged.

Motor does not start and emits a continuous tone

Battery voltage is outside the normal range. Check battery voltage.

Vehicle moves backward when throttle is pushed forward

The default motor direction does not match the chassis. Reverse the motor direction using the SPMXCA200 Programmer Box.

Motor stops suddenly or loses power

Check for radio interference, LVC protection (replace battery), or ESC thermal protection (let it cool down).

Before use

  • Ensure the motor is a Spektrum brushless sensored type.
  • Check gear mesh using the paper test method.
  • Calibrate the ESC to your transmitter.
  • Ensure the sensor wire is securely connected.
  • Disconnect the battery after use to prevent deep discharge.

Images and diagrams

  • Connect motor wires A, B, and C to the corresponding ESC terminals.
  • The sensor wire must be connected between the ESC and motor for sensored operation.

Model compatibility

  • Compatible only with Spektrum brushless sensored motors.
  • Requires SPMXCA200 Programmer Box for advanced settings.
  • Not compatible with standard 5-6V servos if BEC is set to 7.4V.
