Quick guide from the manual

The ZWU 06E is a central control unit designed to manage the charging of underfloor storage heating systems and electric storage heaters. It adjusts charging based on outdoor temperature, control signals, and user settings. Important: Installation and repairs must only be performed by a qualified technician authorized by the energy supplier. The device requires a 3-modular space installation in a distribution board.

Device description

The unit features a timer function for forward, backward, and spread control. It supports various external sensors and can process charge release signals from the distribution network operator. It includes an AC and DC output for control signals depending on the connected unit type.

Installation

The central control unit should be installed in the coolest location, typically the lowest mounting row of the distribution board. The external NTC sensor must be installed at least 2 meters above the floor, preferably in the outer brickwork of the main use zone. It must not be exposed to direct sunlight or heat sources like ventilation shafts. The sensor cable can be extended up to 100 meters using a minimum 1.5 mm² installation cable.

Commissioning

Commissioning is performed via the Menu -> Installer branch. Key settings include:

  • Application range and charging: Select between Central control unit (CCU) or Domestic control unit (ACU).
  • Full charging (E1): Set the outdoor temperature for 100% heat demand.
  • Heat demand factor: Adjusts charge intensity based on structural features.
  • Sensor type: Must be set to match the connected outdoor sensor.
  • System type: Configures typical system setups (storage heaters, underfloor heating, controller types).

Operation

The system offers three main operating modes:

  • Standby: Frost protection only.
  • Manual: Heat level adjustable from 1.0 to 5.0.
  • Automatic: Automatically controls heat level based on a timer and active week or holiday program (ACU only).

The holiday program overrides the active week program. Once the holiday period ends, the previous week program is reactivated.

User interface

The unit features a touchscreen with four function keys at the bottom. The menu is navigated using keys like >> (next level), << (back), +/- (adjust values), and Save. If the menu does not receive a response, "~~~" is displayed.

Technical data

The unit operates on AC 230V ~ 50/60 Hz. It has a power reserve of approximately 6 hours for the clock and runtime. The device is rated IP 20, while the external sensor is rated IP 54. It supports a wide range of external sensors, including DIN EN 50350 standard sensors, tekmar, and others.

Common problems

External sensor failure

The system can be controlled manually using the 'Substitute temperature' setting in the Setup menu.

Power cut

The device has a 6-hour power reserve for the clock and runtime. If the power is off longer, check the date and time settings upon restoration.

Incorrect heating performance

Verify the 'Heat demand factor' and 'Full charging (E1)' settings in the Installer menu.

Before use

  • Ensure installation is performed by an authorized technician.
  • Verify the external sensor is installed at least 2m above the floor.
  • Check that the sensor is not exposed to direct sunlight or heat sources.
  • Ensure the sensor cable is protected with thermal insulation.
  • Verify the correct sensor type is set in the commissioning menu.
