The Discovery 1200x Biological Microscope is designed for young explorers aged 10 and older. Before beginning, ensure the microscope is placed on a stable, vibration-free surface. The device requires 2x AA batteries (not included) for the illumination system. Always handle the microscope by the arm and base when moving it.

Microscope Parts
Familiarize yourself with the main components:

- Eyepiece: The lens you look through.
- Focus Knob: Used to raise and lower the stage for clear images.
- Stage: The platform where the specimen slide is placed.
- Objective Turret: Rotates to change magnification (15x, 30x, 60x).
- Colour Filter Wheel: Located under the stage; helps improve contrast for transparent objects.
- Illumination Switch/Mirror: Turns on the light source.
Operating the Microscope
Illumination: Locate the mirror/light on the base. Flip it to the "on" position so the light faces up to illuminate the specimen from below.
Observation:
- Start with the lowest magnification (15x objective).
- Place the specimen slide on the stage and secure it with the metal stage clips.
- Ensure the stage is in the lowest position before starting.
- Look through the eyepiece and slowly turn the focus knob until the image is sharp.
- To increase magnification, rotate the objective turret to the next setting (30x or 60x).
- Readjust the focus knob whenever the magnification is changed.
Magnification Guide
The total magnification is determined by the combination of the eyepiece and the objective lens:

- 300x: 20x Eyepiece + 15x Objective
- 600x: 20x Eyepiece + 30x Objective
- 1200x: 20x Eyepiece + 60x Objective
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues, check the following:

- No recognizable image: Turn on the light, readjust the focus, and ensure you are starting with the lowest power objective (15x).
- No image: Centre the object on the slide directly under the objective.
- No light: Replace the batteries and check the on/off switch position.
Cleaning and Maintenance
To ensure a long service life:
- Clean lenses (objective and eyepiece) only with a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth. Do not use cleaning fluids.
- Do not press hard on the lenses to avoid scratching.
- Remove batteries if the device will not be used for a long period.
- Store the device in its original packaging, protected from dust and moisture.
Safety Warnings
- Age Restriction: Intended for children older than 8 years; use under adult supervision.
- Batteries: Ensure correct polarity. Do not mix old and new batteries or different battery types.
- Chemicals: Keep all chemicals and liquids out of reach of children. Do not drink. Wash hands after use.
- Sharp Objects: Accessories may have sharp edges; store safely when not in use.
