Quick guide from the manual
The Genesis 3/8" (10mm) VSR Electric Drill (Model GD38B) is a variable speed reversible drill designed for home and workshop use. Before operating, ensure the power supply matches the voltage on the rating plate (120V~/60Hz). Always wear safety goggles or glasses with side shields. The tool features a keyless chuck for easy bit changes and a lock-on button for continuous operation.

Safety rules
General Safety: Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Do not operate in explosive atmospheres. Keep bystanders away. Always wear eye protection marked to comply with ANSI Z87.1. Use a dust mask for operations that generate dust.
Electrical Safety: Ensure the plug matches the outlet. Do not modify the plug. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces like pipes or radiators. Do not abuse the cord; keep it away from heat, oil, and sharp edges. Use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use if working outside.
Personal Safety: Stay alert and use common sense. Do not use the tool while tired or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Dress properly; avoid loose clothing or jewelry that could get caught in moving parts.
Operation
Trigger Switch: The drill is equipped with a variable speed trigger. Depressing the trigger further increases speed and torque. Use the reversing switch to change the direction of rotation.
Lock-On Button: Located in the handle, this allows for continuous operation at a preset speed. To lock, pull the trigger fully, depress the lock-on button, and release the trigger. To unlock, squeeze the trigger fully and release.
Keyless Chuck: To tighten, grasp the collar with one hand and rotate the chuck body clockwise with the other. To loosen, rotate the chuck body counterclockwise while holding the collar. To install a bit, open the jaws, insert the bit fully, and tighten the chuck securely.
Application
Drilling Wood/Plastic: Use appropriate bits (spade, brad, hole saws, etc.). Secure the workpiece with clamps. Apply downward pressure and depress the trigger slowly. Withdraw the bit frequently to clear wood chips. Reduce pressure just before the bit breaks through to avoid splintering.
Drilling Metal: Use high-speed steel twist drill bits. Use a center punch to create an impression to prevent the bit from walking. Apply enough pressure to keep the bit cutting but do not force the tool, as this can break bits or cause overheating.
Maintenance
Cleaning: Avoid using solvents on plastic parts. Use clean cloths to remove dirt, oil, and grease. Do not let brake fluids, gasoline, or petroleum-based products contact plastic parts. If using the tool on fiberglass or plaster, clean it with compressed air after use.
Lubrication: The tool is permanently lubricated at the factory and requires no additional lubrication.
Practical help
Common problems
Immediately release the trigger switch. Unplug the tool from the power source and remove the bit from the work. Do not attempt to free the bit by repeatedly starting and stopping the motor.
Use a center punch to make a small impression in the metal before starting the drill.
Operate in a well-ventilated area, use a dust collection system if possible, and wear a NIOSH/OSHA approved respirator.
Before use
- Check that the power supply voltage matches the rating plate.
- Ensure the switch is in the OFF position before plugging in.
- Wear safety goggles or glasses with side shields.
- Secure the workpiece with clamps or a vise.
- Check that the drill bit is not dull, damaged, or wobbly.
- Ensure the reversing switch is set to the correct direction.
