Placement guidelines
Proper placement is essential for optimal lighting:
- Kitchen Island: Center a linear pendant over the island. If using hanging pendants, use one for every 24 inches of island length. Fixtures should hang at least 30 inches above the countertop.
- Dining Room Table: Fixtures should hang at least 30 inches above the table. Use a fixture that is 12 inches narrower than the width of the table.
- Open Areas: The bottom of the fixture should hang at least 7.5 feet from the floor. Ensure there is clearance for any opening doors.
Assembly instructions
- Preparation: Carefully remove the fixture and parts bag from the carton. Shut off power at the circuit breaker and remove the old fixture and mounting strap.
- Mounting: Attach the threaded nipple (F) to the mounting strap (A) using the hex nut (C) and washer (D). Secure the mounting strap (A) to the junction box using the mounting screws (B).
- Chain Adjustment: Measure the required chain (J) length. Use pliers to open and remove excess chain links. Attach chain connectors (K) to each end of the chain. Connect one end to the top loop (L) and the other to the canopy loop (H). Close the connectors to secure.
- Wiring: Feed the fixture wires through the chain (every three links) and through the canopy loop (H) and canopy (G). Slide the canopy loop collar (I) and canopy (G) down onto the chain/wire.
Wiring instructions
Have an assistant support the fixture's weight while connecting wires:
- Hot to Hot: Connect the fixture's hot wire (smooth, black, or transparent with black inner thread) to the house hot wire.
- Neutral to Neutral: Connect the fixture's neutral wire (ribbed, white, or transparent with white inner thread) to the house neutral wire.
- Ground to Ground: Connect the fixture's ground wire (copper, bare metal, green, or transparent with green inner thread) to the house ground wire. If no house ground wire exists, wrap the fixture ground wire around the ground screw (E) on the mounting bracket.
Twist wire ends together and secure with a wire connector, ensuring all twists are in the same direction.
Finishing the installation
- Push the canopy (G) up to the ceiling.
- Slide the canopy loop collar (I) up and thread it tightly onto the canopy loop (H) to secure the canopy in place.
- Install a light bulb (not provided) into the shade (M) according to the fixture's specifications.
- Turn on the power and test the fixture.
