The Holzmann FS 160L is a high-quality spindle moulder designed for sophisticated private users. This manual provides essential instructions for safe installation, operation, and maintenance. Always ensure the machine is disconnected from the power supply before performing any adjustments, tool changes, or maintenance tasks.
Safety Rules
- Operator: Only trained persons aged 18 or older should operate the machine. Keep children and unauthorized personnel away.
- Clothing: Do not wear loose clothing, jewelry, or have long hair open, as these can get caught in rotating parts.
- Dust Hazard: Always connect the machine to an adequate dust collection system. Wear a breathing mask when working with treated materials.
- Electric Connection: Ensure the power supply matches the motor requirements. Electrical work must be performed by a qualified electrician.
- Operation: Never force the machine. Feed the workpiece in the direction opposite to the cutter rotation. Keep hands at least 30cm (12 inches) away from the cutters.
Machine Overview
Key components include the outfeed fence, motor compartment door, sliding table lock, ON/OFF/Emergency OFF button, spindle rotation lock, spindle height adjustment wheel, infeed fence, and fence securing bolt.

Assembly
The machine is shipped partially disassembled. Upon delivery, check for transport damage and report it within 48 hours. Use an approved lifting device (crane or high-lift truck) for transport, ensuring the machine is stable. Connect the machine to an exhaust system with a minimum capacity of 570m³/h for dry particles or 790m³/h for wet particles, using 100mm diameter hoses.

Operation
Spindle Height Adjustment
Use the hand wheel on the rear right side of the stand to set the height. Secure it with the arresting screw. One full turn equals 2mm.
Spindle Speed Change
Disconnect the machine from power. Open the motor compartment door, loosen the lock handle, pivot the motor assembly to loosen the belt, reposition the belt to the desired speed, and re-tension.
Cutter Tool Installation
Use only cutters conforming to EN847-1:2005. Ensure spacing rings are clean. The tool is fixed by the bolt (nut) through the spindle ring and spacing rings. Always check for free rotation by hand after installation.
Maintenance
Switch off and disconnect the machine before cleaning. Regularly clean the table, fence faces, and mitre gauge using a brush or compressed air. Protect the table against rust with light oil and grease the sliding table ways monthly. Check the V-belt monthly for cracks or glazing and replace it at least once a year.

Troubleshooting
If the machine does not start, check the fuse, power cord, or ensure the belt access door is closed (microswitch). If the machine vibrates, check the surface level, V-belt tension, or for damaged pulleys. For unsatisfactory cuts, check for dull cutters, debris on the cutter edge, or incorrect speed/feed combinations.
Guarantee & Service
For service inquiries or spare parts, contact your Holzmann reseller or email [email protected]. Include the service form and, for spare parts, a copy of the exploded drawing with the required parts marked.
Practical help
Common problems
Check if the fuse is blown or circuit breaker triggered. Ensure the power cord is intact and the belt change access door is closed properly (microswitch).
Ensure the extension cord is adequately dimensioned. Reduce the material feed rate and check if cutter head knives are dull.
Ensure the machine stands on a solid, level, vibration-free surface. Check V-belt tension and inspect for damaged pulleys.
Replace dull cutters, clean debris/gum/pitch from the cutter edge, and verify the combination of cutter, feed rate, and spindle speed.
Before use
- Check for transport damages upon unpacking.
- Ensure the dust collection system is connected and running.
- Verify that the power supply voltage and frequency match the machine plate.
- Ensure all safety guards and devices are in good condition.
- Check that the cutter is sharp and correctly installed.
- Verify that the spindle rotation is free by turning it by hand (unplugged).
Specs in practice
- Spindle speeds
- Selectable speeds: 1400, 4000, 6000, or 9000 rpm.
- Spindle diameter
- 30mm diameter for mounting cutters.
