Quick guide from the manual

The IKEA FIXA 14.4V is a cordless screwdriver/drill designed for drilling in wood, plastic, and soft metal, as well as tightening and loosening screws. Before first use, the battery must be fully charged. Always set the rotational direction switch to the center position during transport, storage, or when changing tools to prevent accidental activation.

Product Features

Product parts diagram
Product parts diagram
  • Keyless chuck: For easy bit changes.
  • Torque regulator: 19 settings for screws plus a drill mode.
  • Gear selector: Two speed positions (I for low speed, II for high speed).
  • Rotational direction switch: Reverses rotation and locks the trigger.
  • Variable speed trigger: Controls speed based on pressure.

Charging the Battery

Connect the charger's transformer plug to the tool and the transformer to the power supply. The red diode on the tool lights up during charging. The battery is fully charged when the red diode turns green. Do not charge for more than 8 hours. The battery generates heat during charging, which is normal.

Mounting drill/driver bits

Ensure the rotational direction switch is in the center position. Adjust the chuck by holding the rear ring (10) and rotating the front sleeve (11) until the opening is large enough for the bit. Insert the bit and tighten the chuck.

Speed and Torque

Use the variable speed trigger to control rotation speed. Use the gear selector (3) to choose the speed range: Position I (0-350/min) for tightening/loosening screws or drilling in metal/plastic; Position II (0-1200/min) for drilling in wood. Use the torque regulator (2) to set the tightening moment (1-19). Select the drill symbol for drilling tasks.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Always keep the machine and ventilation slots clean. Before any maintenance or tool change, set the rotational direction switch to the center position. If the tool is damaged, have it repaired by a qualified technician before use.

Safety Instructions

Read all safety warnings. Failure to follow instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury. Do not use the tool near flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Hold the tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing operations where the fastener may contact hidden wiring. If the tool jams, switch it off immediately to prevent kickback.

Environmental Disposal

This product must not be discarded with ordinary household waste. It should be taken to a designated WEEE collection point for recycling in accordance with local regulations.

Common problems

Tool stops rotating during use

The battery is empty. The Electronic Cell Protection (ECP) has activated to prevent deep discharge.

Sparks visible through motor housing

This is a normal reaction of the motor components moving against each other and does not affect tool function.

Chuck is difficult to open or close

Ensure you are holding the rear ring (10) firmly while rotating the front sleeve (11).

Before use

  • Fully charge the battery before first use.
  • Check that the rotational direction switch is in the center position during transport or storage.
  • Ensure the work area is clean and well-lit.
  • Wear eye protection.
  • Verify the drill bit is suitable for the material (wood, plastic, soft metal).

Specs in practice

Position I (0-350/min)
Low speed range, ideal for screws and drilling in metal/plastic.
Position II (0-1200/min)
