Device Overview
LED Indicator: Solid White indicates power and data connection; Blinking White indicates data activity.

USB4 40Gb/s Port: Used to attach the included data cable to your host device.

Assembly Steps

Opening the Enclosure
- Place the enclosure upside down on a flat, static-free surface.
- Remove the two exposed case screws using the included screwdriver.
- Push the bottom tray away from the rubber foot to separate it from the top cover.
Installing an SSD
- The drive post is pre-installed for a 2280 NVMe M.2 SSD. If using a 2242 or 2230 form factor, loosen the drive post with a 5mm hex socket (not included) and move it to the corresponding position.
- Align the drive at a slight angle into the board connection and slide it forward until fully seated.
- Use the included drive screw to secure the SSD.
Closing the Enclosure
- Align the bottom tray and top cover so the thermal pad rests over the NVMe M.2 SSD.
- Slide the pieces together and press down on the top cover to ensure a strong bond.
- Secure the cover using the two case screws removed earlier.
- Peel the back of the rubber foot to expose the adhesive and press it into the notch housing the case screws.
Device Management
Disk Performance: On Windows 10 (v. 1809 or later), the default removal policy is 'Quick removal'. If experiencing slow speeds, consider changing this to 'Better performance' via Windows settings or the OWC Disk Performance application.
Unmounting: Always eject or unmount the volume from your operating system before disconnecting the device to prevent data loss.
Usage Notes
- Opening a pre-built OWC Express 1M2 (with factory-installed SSD) voids the warranty.
- NVMe SSDs with heat sinks are not supported.
- Thunderbolt 3 ports will limit performance to 10Gb/s.
- Not compatible with the front USB-C or USB-A ports of a Sony Playstation 5.
Safety Precautions
- Do not expose the device to temperatures outside the operating range (5°C – 35°C / 41°F – 95°F).
- Do not block ventilation openings.
- Use anti-static precautions when installing drives.
- Do not disassemble or modify the device.
- Keep away from water and damp conditions.
