Quick guide from the manual

The Ascent R1 is a cellular accessory designed for gate and door access control. Please note that an uninterrupted cellular connection cannot be guaranteed, so an emergency egress or primary entry mechanism (such as a transmitter, fire box, or mechanical release) should always be used. The unit will not function until the activation process is complete via Summit Control.

Unpacking and Components

Ensure the package contains the following items:

  • Ascent Unit
  • 12-V AC/DC Adapter
  • 4 Carriage Bolts
  • 4 Hex Nuts
  • L Key
  • Screwdriver

The unit features a faceplate that can be opened using the L Key. Inside, you will find the Cellular Antenna Jacks, Relay Terminals, Power Terminals, Digital Input Terminals, and the SIM card slot.

Mounting the Unit

We recommend mounting the unit on a gooseneck pedestal using the included mounting hardware. Use all four carriage bolts when mounting. If you are using alternate mounting, you must purchase and install the 4G LTE Antenna Extension Kit (Model 16-ANTX-1) to avoid signal loss. Always seal any openings created in the enclosure to prevent damage.

Wiring and Connections

Feed wires through the back of the unit. We recommend using 18-gauge stranded wire for all connections. Consult your gate or door opener manual for exact connection requirements, as terminals vary by manufacturer.

Power Connection: Connect the 12-V AC/DC adapter to the Power Terminals. Ensure positive is connected to positive and negative to negative. Reversing polarity can damage the unit and void the warranty.

Relay Connection: Connect the Relay Terminals to your gate operator or door opener as required.

Initial Setup and Activation

Once the unit is powered and wired, perform the following steps:

  1. Key in the temporary code 2012 on the keypad.
  2. Confirm that the gate opens.
  3. If the gate opens, close and secure the unit faceplate.
  4. Follow the included Activation Guide to create an account and begin using the Ascent system.

Note that adding and deleting codes is managed through Summit Control, not from the keypad on the unit.

Safety Warnings

Automatic gates can cause serious injury or death. Always check that the gate path is clear before operating the system. Reversing or other safety devices should always be used in conjunction with this system.
