Quick guide from the manual

This document serves as a 1:1 scale drilling template for the installation of TownSteel SVR (Surface Vertical Rod) devices and ESC lever trims. It provides precise measurements for drilling holes on both Left Hand Reverse (LHR) and Right Hand Reverse (RHR) doors. Always ensure the template is printed at 100% scale before use.

Drilling Template for SVR Device

The template provides specific drilling locations based on the hardware configuration:

LHR (Left Hand Reverse) drilling template for SVR device.
LHR (Left Hand Reverse) drilling template for SVR device.
RHR (Right Hand Reverse) drilling template for SVR device.
RHR (Right Hand Reverse) drilling template for SVR device.
  • Lever/Knob Trim: Drill a 2-1/8" (54mm) diameter hole for exterior access.
  • Cylinder Only: Drill a 1-5/16" (33mm) diameter hole from the inside of the door.
  • Sex Bolts: Drill 3/8" (9.6mm) diameter holes where indicated.

Important Notes:

  • Only drill holes marked for your specific configuration. If you are not installing external trim, do not drill the holes designated for it.
  • The template distinguishes between LHR and RHR door configurations. Ensure you are using the correct side of the template for your door swing.
  • Primary dimensions are in inches, with millimeters provided in parentheses.

Latch Templates

The manual includes specific templates for the bottom and top latches:

Bottom and Top Latch drilling templates.
Bottom and Top Latch drilling templates.
  • Bottom Latch: Templates are provided for Handicap Strike (Optional), Surface Strike (Regular), and Mortise-in Strike (Optional).
  • Top Latch: Template provided for Top Strike (Regular use).
  • Follow the "Fold Here" lines on the dotted lines to align the templates correctly on the door chassis.
  • Ensure mounting screw holes are marked and drilled according to the specific strike type being installed.

Practical help

Common problems

Unsure which holes to drill

Only drill holes marked for your specific configuration (e.g., with or without external trim). Do not drill holes for features you are not installing.

Incorrect hole size

Use 2-1/8" (54mm) for lever/knob trim, 1-5/16" (33mm) for cylinder only, and 3/8" (9.6mm) for sex bolts.

Before use

  • Verify door hand (LHR or RHR).
  • Confirm if external trim is required.
  • Check if cylinder-only access is needed.
  • Ensure the template is printed at 1:1 scale.
  • Identify the specific strike type (Handicap, Surface, or Mortise-in) for the bottom latch.

Images and diagrams

  • The templates show 'Fold Here' lines to help align the paper with the door edge.
  • Holes marked with 'B' or 'F' indicate specific mounting screw locations.
  • The template provides a 1:1 scale representation for accurate drilling.

Model compatibility

  • Compatible with LHR (Left Hand Reverse) and RHR (Right Hand Reverse) doors.
  • Supports multiple strike types for bottom latches (Handicap, Surface, Mortise-in).
