Quick Guide from the Manual

This manual provides essential safety, operation, and maintenance instructions for the Bauer 14" Abrasive Cut-Off Saw (Model 20713E-B). Always read the full safety information before use. Key operations include mounting the saw to a stable surface, performing a ring-test on new abrasive wheels, and adjusting the cutting depth and angle.

Safety Warnings

  • General: Keep work area clean and well-lit. Do not operate in explosive atmospheres. Keep children and bystanders away.
  • Electrical: Ensure the tool is plugged into a properly grounded outlet. Use a GFCI-protected supply in damp locations.
  • Personal: Wear ANSI-approved eye protection, dust mask, and hearing protection. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry.
  • Kickback: Avoid pinching or snagging the wheel. Do not force the tool. Maintain a firm grip and do not stand in line with the rotating wheel.
  • Vibration: Prolonged use may cause injury. Take breaks and grip the tool lightly.

Wheel Changing

  1. Raise the saw and open the swing guard.
  2. Push the spindle lock towards the fixed guard and rotate the wheel until it locks.
  3. Loosen the arbor bolt and remove the flange washer, outer flange, and old wheel.
  4. Perform a ring-test on the new wheel: suspend it and tap it with a non-metallic object. A clear tone indicates an undamaged wheel; a dead sound indicates a crack.
  5. Install the new wheel, ensuring the concave side of the outer flange faces the wheel. Tighten the arbor bolt (do not overtighten).

Angle Cuts

To cut at angles up to 45°, loosen the two bolts on the angle scale, adjust to the desired setting, and retighten both bolts.

Using the Vise

Secure workpieces using the vise to prevent movement. Use the quick release and vise handle to tighten the jaw against the workpiece.

Maintenance

  • Before Each Use: Inspect for loose hardware, misaligned parts, cracked components, or damaged wiring.
  • After Use: Wipe external surfaces with a clean cloth.
  • Cleaning: Periodically blow dust out of motor vents using dry compressed air while wearing appropriate safety gear.
  • Storage: Keep accessories in a dry, frost-free area. Do not use wheels that have been dropped or bumped.
